GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This is a recreated version of my Lake Como–themed lazy Susan, which I originally submitted to last year’s makers contest. It was made as a wedding gift for a couple who met at Lake Como. The piece is crafted from four types of wood: oak, beech, wenge, and bodo. I wasn’t fully satisfied with the first version, so I decided to create another one. Compared to the original, this version features a heavily modified image and the addition of beech as the background wood. Its brighter tone increases contrast compared to oak. I also changed the order of the carved elements, made the piece significantly thicker to prevent warping, and changed the grain orientation from vertical to horizontal. The carving itself was also done with a different V-bit that has a larger angle, which made the inlay fitting much easier. The base is completely redesigned as well. It now includes a hidden bearing, made possible by two custom 3D-printed rings that act as spacers. There is only one screw hole used to connect the base with 4 screws, concealed beneath a rubber foot. In the last picture, you can see both versions side by side, with the original on the right.
